Why this exists
During my time backpacking through Southeast Asia, I received many recommendations from friends and family. They were scattered across texts, Instagram DMs, Google Docs, my Notes app and probably a few other places I've already forgotten about. The recommendations are valuable, but unorganized. I wanted to see what I could do about it while learning how to vibe code something from scratch in the process.
I Know a Place brings those recommendations together. Each entry includes what someone thought, how they rated it and approximately how much time, money and energy it requires. When you'd rather not piece together the day yourself, Plan my trip uses those recommendations to suggest a few options that fits what you feel like doing.
This is intended to feel different than other review sites, the value comes from the context behind each recommendation. Opinions from friends and family whose tastes you understand, whose judgment you trust and who have a sense of what you might actually enjoy, moreso than strangers on the internet.
Toronto was the starting point for this project, a way to test the idea using genuine recommendations for a city I know. Now that I've seen what it can do, I plan to use it for future trips.
Hopefully I can spend less time digging through my phone and more time actually going places worth recommending.
